Pioneer DJ aim to create a REVolution!
This morning Pioneer DJ announced the release of two new controllers, the REV1 and REV7. The new controllers mark the start of the new REV range, a new series of controllers aimed at turntablist DJs. Sharing a similar layout and feel to a battle DJ set-up, both controllers offer an uncompromised design that sets them apart from the competition. Both units come bundled with respective versions of Serato DJ Lite and Pro, with sadly no Rekordbox support insight. Are these the best controllers for DJs wanting to scratch or have Pioneer DJ missed the battle DJ ship? Take a closer look at both models in our dedicated reviews found below!
The REV1 is an entry-level controller that will replace the popular SB3 unit as Pioneer DJ’s Serato DJ Lite controller. With a street price of £280, the REV1 shares a similar layout to the more expensive REV7 and introduces brand new features such as Tracking and Paddle effects. In a surprising move, Scratch bank can now be unlocked in Serato DJ Lite whilst using the REV1, a feature previously only found in the most expensive DJ mixers with Serato DJ Pro!
The REV7 on the other hand is Pioneer DJ’s answer to the popular Rane One motorised controller. With inbuilt displays and some of the best features from the popular S11 mixer, the REV7 aims to be the ultimate controller for professional scratch DJs. Interestingly, the REV7 contains inbuilt scratch samples that can be used in standalone mode for practice. Does all this warrant the REV7’s high price tag of £1800 though?
