Scratching can look quite easy but is often one of the hardest techniques to master. Baby scratching is the most basic of scratches and usually the one DJ’s learn first. But before moving onto more advanced scratching, combo’s, flares and patterns you should first learn this simple trick which will instantly make your scratching better! Understanding the timing of music and how the phrasing of tracks works will allow you to create dynamic and interesting scratches that will set you up for better combinations and scratch routines in the future. We filmed this video on a DJ Controller but the theory applies to any DJ set up, whether that be CDJ’s, Vinyl or Software based.
