Hercules today announced the release of the new DJ Control Mix controller! Aimed at the beginner market this budget-friendly controller connects wirelessly to a mobile device running Algoriddim’s DJay app. Sharing the same chassis and controls as the popular DJ Starlight controller, the Control Mix uses the same wireless technology as the popular Pioneer DDJ-200. Using the tablet or phone to output the audio, this little controller only requires connecting to power to get going! Thankfully Hercules includes the audio splitter cable to enable speakers and headphones to be connected to the phone audio output. However in the portless era we now live in, you will need to supply your own lightning/USB-C headphone jack adaptor!
Key Features:
- Built for Algoriddim Djay
- Backpack Friendly Size
- Phone Stand Included
- Powered by battery bank or USB power supply via USB-C
- RRP £89 / €99 / $109
Our Initial Thoughts
The Hercules DJ Starlight was already a fan favourite, with its tiny footprint and fantastic price point, being used by travelling DJ’s and beginners alike. The decision to create a mobile-friendly version is a smart move, especially given the popularity of the similar Pioneer DJ DDJ-200. Priced at just under £100 here in the UK, this is easily the cheapest phone friendly DJ controller and we wouldn’t be surprised to see it sell well in the build-up to Christmas.
Other Controllers to Consider
Hercules DJ Control Starlight – $99 / €79 / £74
Essentially the same controller, however, this version includes a soundcard and disco lights! It does require a USB connection to connect though!
Pioneer DJ DDJ-200 – $149 / €159 / £139
The original wireless controller! Considerably more expensive and larger, however, this controller has a more conventional layout!
Keep your eyes peeled for our full review of the Hercules DJ Control mix coming soon!
whats the crossfader like on the wireless one? scratchable?
I bought a starlight and it’s been great. I love it! Because of all these small mini controllers, they forgo having a knob to search through your inventory and instead give you more knobs that I could map for EQ.
I’m sketchy on this one though just because I like how the starlight has a sound card, and it’s USB. I’m not the most trusting of using Bluetooth to control things just because I’ve seen it get sketchy.
